Bridge in Castelfranc, France

Field study: Vert River/Castelfranc bridge
Field study: Vert River/Castelfranc bridge
Here is the result of my plein air painting (6x8 pastel, field study) along the Vert River with a view of the old bridge. How do you like the impact of the purple underpainting? The jury is still out for me, but I am encouraged and will continue to experiment with the idea. Now I will have to see how I will like it if I apply the purple underpainting in a studio painting. Stay tuned.

When you created this piece, did you actually "see" the purple there? Or, did you use your artistic flair to add it in? I can hardly wait to see the finished painting. Awesome work!

Before I begin a painting, I decide on a color palette. My "interpretation" at the beginning of this field study saw the purple/yellow color palette, versus the blue/orange or green/ red. FYI: Since this is a field study, it is finished for now. It may or may not be used for a larget painting that I complete in the studio. Glad you like it!
